Italy comes out top as the world’s most Googled destination for post-lockdown holidays, with almost 1.94 million (1,939,440) annual global searches. Following in second is Maldives, with an average 1.8m (1,798,680) global annual searches, with Mexico third with 1.7m (1,722,360) searches.

Thailand, Spain and Canada also rank among the top 10 most searched destinations.

Meanwhile, despite being the origin of the COVID-19 pandemic, China makes it into the top 15 countries in 11th place, with more than 1 million global average searches.

“With destinations around the world closing their borders, travel hasn’t been an option, but with these borders now re-opening, it’s great to see that even countries that were among the worst affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, including China and Italy, are being considered for holidays in the near future,” said Jayne Forrester, director of international development at Official-ESTA.com.

According to Google, “flights to Maldives” and “trips to Maldives” were also among the most searched for topics during the COVID-19 pandemic as well.

Maldives was also crowned as the most searched destination on Google in the US in 2019.
