The Maldives wins the prestigious position of the Indian Ocean’s Leading Beach Destination, Indian Ocean’s Leading Dive Destination and Indian Ocean’s Leading Honeymoon Destination at the Annual World Travel Awards; Africa and the Indian Ocean held at Sugar Beach – A Sun Resort, Mauritius on 1st June 2019. The Maldives once again secured the prestigious position after fierce competition with Africa and Indian Ocean’s top tourist destinations such as Seychelles and Mauritius.
The World Travel Awards Africa & Indian Ocean Gala Ceremony 2019 promises to be the most prestigious travel and tourism event of the year which brought together the leading figureheads and VIPs from across Africa and the Indian Ocean. This year marks the World Travel Awards’ 26th anniversary of honoring excellence in the international hospitality industry. At the red-carpet event, the formal announcement of Maldives’ victory and the stage presentation of Maldives’ World Travel Awards took place along with filmed media interviews.

In 2018 the Maldives welcomed over 1.4 million tourist arrivals which was an increase of 6.8% compared to the previous year.
