As part of its initiative to minimise plastic usage, Grand Park Kodhipparu has completely eliminated single-use plastics, resulting in a reduction of around 450,000 plastic straws since transitioning to reusable alternatives in 2019. Additionally, the onsite bottling plant introduced in 2019 has contributed to the elimination of 117,000 plastic bottles in 2023 alone, helping to conserve important resources and reduce waste.

With a 99% success rate from innovative approaches under the coral reef restoration project, the resort is dedicated to strengthening its house reef, successfully transplanting over 35 coral colonies in 2023 to enhance the vibrant underwater ecosystem for guests to explore.

Through dedicated research, Grand Park Kodhipparu has recognised over 115 species of trees and plants, showcasing the island’s rich flora and fauna. The resort has collaborated with the Olive Ridley Project to monitor and conserve the resident turtles, also enhancing the overall guest experience by promoting awareness of the rich marine life surrounding the resort.

The resort also implemented a solar power system on Earth Day 2021 in an effort to reduce carbon emissions, which currently meets over 10.56% of its electricity needs and saves around 150,000 litres of diesel each year. Additionally, energy-efficient lighting, water conservation initiatives, and eco-friendly amenities are integrated throughout the resort.

Aiming to promote marine conservation and sustainability, the resort’s Resident Marine Biologist conducts regular talks, guided snorkelling tours, and awareness sessions for both team members and guests to deepen their understanding and show them ways to contribute to marine conservation.
