Ministry of Tourism has revealed colorful activities lined up for the celebration of World Tourism Day 2019.
The world tourism day celebrations will begin with a canoe race at Vaavu atoll. Both male and female teams from each atoll will be invited to participate in this race. While the female team will canoe from Vaavu Keyodhoo to Vaavu Fulidhoo, the male team will race from Vaavu Fulidhoo to Vaavu Thinadhoo. This race will end with traditional activities, dinner and fireworks at Vaavu Keyodhoo with the locals and participants of the race.
This will be an attempt to break the world record of the most number of freedivers in one spot. Baros Maldives will host this event with 500 divers along with the World Freediving Champion William Trubridge.
A 2-day event aimed at providing information about the opportunities in the tourism industry. This event will be held under the motto for this year’s tourism day “Tourism and Jobs: a better future for all”.
These centres will be built to identify and attract tourists to the local historical and traditional sites in various parts of Maldives. This very first of its kind centre will be located in R. Angolhitheemu.
This is an opportunity for school students to explore and learn the operations at the Ministry of Tourism. They will get to visit, observe and even clarify any queries they have with the ministry’s staff.
A one-day football tournament open to Male’, Villimale’ and Hulhumale’ schools. This will be held in association with the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Community Empowerment, Football Association of Maldives and Ministry of Education. Best players of this knock out style tournament will be awarded a chance to play with the under 13 national team squad for the Intercontinental Cup which will be held in Dubai next year. To assist in selecting the best players, the popular former Real Madrid’s captain and Spanish player Míchel Salgado will be there.
This is a conference which will be held every year to address and discuss the issues in the Tourism industry. This year’s conference will look into security, environment, job opportunities and the launch of a platform for local artists in the tourism industry. The conference will sum up with an official gala night dinner. This year’s dinner will be held at Paradise Island Resort & Spa.
