CROSSROADS Maldives is gearing up for the upcoming two-day celebration of Eid al-Fitr, a significant festival for the local community. Eid al-Fitr signifies the conclusion of the holy month of Ramadan, a period of fasting from dawn until sunset observed by Muslims worldwide and is projected to happen on 22 April 2023, pending the official sighting of the moon.
During the Eid celebrations at CROSSROADS Maldives, guests can anticipate a multifaceted range of exciting activities. This year’s celebrations will encompass an assortment of exclusive feasts, cultural performances and traditional games, all of which will be available to resort in-house guests at Crossroads and the day visitors of The Marina. The celebrations will take place for two consecutive days from 22 to 23 April, 2023, providing ample time for guests to partake in the festivities.
On the first day of Eid, guests will have the opportunity to witness a remarkable cultural spectacle in the form of the Maali dance, a traditional dance that has been passed down from generation to generation. This unique dance is performed by men who are adorned in traditional garb, accompanied by mythical characters that draw inspiration from African tribal dancers.
The Maali Parade is scheduled to commence at Hard Rock Hotel Maldives at 16:00 hrs and will proceed through the Musikee bridge, culminating in a Cultural Eid Show at the SAii Beach Club. The show will feature live performances of Boduberu, a type of traditional music and Fenkulhi, a playful water fight that involves participation from all.
On the second day, CROSSROADS Maldives will host the highly anticipated Street Market at The Marina, which draws inspiration from the vibrant Asian weekend street markets, featuring an array of stalls offering freshly prepared foods and various goods. As previously announced earlier this month, the Street Market at The Marina will now be held every Friday, providing a unique opportunity for all registered businesses to promote and sell their products with free stalls.
Since its inception in 2020, the Street Market has proven to be a resounding success, providing a valuable platform for small businesses and aspiring artists from across the country.
