The Maldives is aiming for a new tourism milestone, targeting 2.4 million tourist arrivals in 2025, surpassing the 2.2 million arrivals forecasted in the national budget. Tourism Minister Ibrahim Faisal expressed strong optimism for the industry’s future, highlighting growth in key markets and the success of targeted promotional efforts.
“Major markets have performed remarkably well compared to previous years. Arrivals from China, Germany, and Russia have seen significant growth,” Minister Faisal said. This strategic approach is expected to further boost the Maldives’ popularity as a sought-after destination.
In 2024, the Maldives is on track to achieve another record, with the 2 millionth tourist expected to arrive by December 26. With a 9.2% increase in arrivals compared to the same period last year, daily arrivals during peak season are expected to reach up to 8,000 tourists. To meet this year’s target, an additional 353,673 visitors are expected in December.
Currently, the Maldives has welcomed 1,797,028 tourists in 2024, already showing impressive growth. The government is committed to sustaining this positive trend, with plans to diversify and strengthen the tourism sector for years to come. Ongoing and future participations in international trade shows, along with targeted marketing campaigns, are being implemented to further boost growth and attract more visitors. Minister Faisal emphasised the importance of adapting to evolving market trends and maintaining the Maldives’ status as a premier global destination.
