Taj Exotica Resort & Spa has recently been awarded the Most Sustainable Resort title at the TTM Awards & Gala 2024, a recognition of its groundbreaking efforts in sustainable luxury. With the Maldives’ first floating solar park and eco-conscious initiatives, the resort continues to set new benchmarks in sustainable luxury.
Partnering with Swimsol, the world leader in offshore marine photovoltaics, Taj Exotica has launched a 1,080 kWp solar park, the largest functioning Solar Sea system in the Maldives. The SolarSea system, in conjunction with a battery, will enable it to operate completely on renewable energy throughout the day. The largest operating Solar Sea system in the Maldives saves around 475,000 litres of diesel annually and reduces the resort’s carbon footprint by 1,200 tons each year.
Operating with one of the Maldives’ lowest carbon footprints, Taj Exotica Resort & Spa emphasises its commitment to sustainable indulgence. This initiative highlights their focus on energy conservation, reducing ecological damage, and preserving the beauty of the Maldives.
Building on its sustainable practices, the resort invites guests to participate in the Adopt a Coral Line program, planting coral fragments at the Coral Line Nursery as part of efforts to restore the local reefs. This initiative is aligned with the resort’s ongoing Coral Reef Rehabilitation and Protection program, launched in 2004. Additionally, the resort supports critical research into the Maldivian ecosystem, guided by specialists at a PADI 5-Star Diving and Water Sports Centre.
Among the select few resorts in the Maldives, Taj Exotica Resort & Spa is one of only two resorts to have earned the EarthCheck Platinum certification for its commitment to environmental stewardship.
